Shimokitazawa is a small, but very popular town only 5 minutes from Shibuya, and a few more minutes to Shinjuku by train.
Also known as “Theatre Town” due to it’s many live music venues and small theatres, Shimokitazawa is one of the best places to check out some of those zany Japanese bands you have heard about, but don’t know where to find.
With it’s small unorganized roads not quite wide enough for cars in many areas, it is the perfect place for walking. The abundance of unique and second-hand stores, cool cafes, bars, old style Japanese pubs and eateries in a village type atmosphere is a refreshing change from the densely crowded areas of Tokyo, only a few minutes train ride away.
